Position: Research Supervisor
Contract: 1-year renewable contract Location: Ibadan
DUTIES:
· Provide technical support on implementation of plantain/banana improvement research activities in Nigeria, with a focus on breeding, germplasm multiplication and evaluation.
· Assist with field lay out and establishment of new pollination blocks, evaluation trials etc. based on instructions from the PBIP scientists and Research Associate.
· Carry out accurate data collection and reporting on prioritized traits in trials using digital tools.
· Be responsible for routine maintenance of all pollination blocks and evaluation trials in line with designated field management schedules (planting, weed management, harvesting etc.).
· Assist in plant sample collection and preparation for genotyping, ploidy analysis, and other germplasm transfers as needed.
· Assist in multiplication and maintenance of selected genotypes for research activities and training of stakeholders on propagation techniques.
· Supervise casual workers for implementation of assigned tasks.
Perform any other job-related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
BSc/HND in Crop protection, Agronomy or any other related field with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience performing a similar role in a well-structured environment.
COMPETENCIES:

• Have good communication skills (writing, reading, and speaking).
• Be proficient in MS-Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and basic exposure to data curation techniques.
• Have excellent interpersonal and multi-tasking skills.
• Be experienced in plantain/banana improvement screen house/field trials management.
• Attention to detail combined with good self-motivation and self-organizational skills.
• Have a positive attitude and strong team spirit.
• Have practical experience with digital data collection and reporting.
