The Role
[This role can be based in South Africa / Nigeria / Kenya or other African markets].
As a senior member of the FFA team, you will define strategy and lead execution to proactively develop and help close commercial opportunities for our early-stage venture portfolio of startups, primarily through building relationships with new and existing investors and partners. Please note that for FFA, early-stage startups are tech-enabled, pre-Series A ventures that on the pathway to scale (not traditional 'brick and mortar' small to medium businesses (SMEs).
You will lead the Partnerships team to: Manage relationships with FFA’s existing investors (Standard Bank Group, Netcare Group and The Small Foundation) on a day-to-day basis: strategically designing the engagement between the investors and the startups, ensuring the value and additionality is being delivered to the FFA portfolio.
Leverage your existing network of partners to deliver operational and commercial opportunities for FFA’s portfolio early-stage tech businesses. You will tap into your pan-African contacts, and develop new relationships with corporates, enterprises, scale ups, variety of other parties to deliver tangible commercial value-add to the startups. You will be designing, structuring and closing partnerships, pilots and deals.
Collaborate with FFA teams and functions to enable effective and efficient management of FFA activities across FFA’s corporate investors. You will support FFA’s entrepreneurs to design, develop and deliver their partnerships strategies.
You will also be responsible for defining the next chapter of FFA Partnerships' growth over the coming 3+ years, and have the opportunity to develop a strategy, as well as execute on it. This may include commercial partnerships with new partners - productising some of FFA's IP and driving additional revenue streams; innovative business development models; thought-leadership and brand activation, as examples. You will have the commercial and technical skills required to navigate the challenges early stage startups face but also the experience and gravitas to navigate and influence how large organisations think and work. You’ll have outstanding people skills, ability to take ownership and have a bias for action, resilience and a deep interest for early stage start ups in Africa.
As a senior leader, you will work independently and manage a team. You will collaborate with other FFA team members as well as the FFA management team including the CEO.Responsibilities
  • Design, deliver and continuously improve FFA’s partnerships strategy across Health, Financial Services and Agriculture ecosystems to deliver commercial outcomes for FFA early stage tech startups across Africa
  • Leverage your strong network of partners, and build new relationships across Health, Financial Services, Agriculture and other sectors, to support FFA's portfolio of startups in delivering pilots, commercial contracts, and other value-adding outcomes (Business Development)
  • Own the management and continuous improvement of FFA's Partnerships channel and account management systems
  • Generate quarterly reports to FFA leadership team on performance against Key Drivers and strategy
