Job Description

Our client in the Utilities sector is seeking to fill the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

The CFO is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company and making decisions based on the organisation's financial stability. His/her duties include monitoring cash flow, meeting with management to discuss the best practices for company finances, and coming up with strategic plans to improve the organisation's overall financial health. He/she is also responsible for financial planning and management to drive business performance and the attainment of corporate goals.


ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting and Reporting
  • Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are appropriate for the users and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and international Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met including Withholding Payments, Income Tax, Value Added Tax, Pension funds etc.
  • Review monthly results and implement monthly variance reporting.
  • Oversee the book-keeping function including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
  • Manage the cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts in accordance with policy.
  • Manage the acquisition of capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed of as appropriate.

Strategy, Planning and Budgeting

  • Lead the development of finance and related strategies, plans and budgets in alignment with the organisation’s strategic direction and goals, and support strategic and business planning.
  • Keep abreast of trends and changes in the industry, operating environment, financial regulations, and legislation.
  • Identify emerging opportunities and implications for the organisation and advise management accordingly.
  • Engage in the preparation of the Budget, manage the budget; monitor budget implementation, highlight deviations and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Communicate, drive, and monitor the implementation of relevant strategies and plans, and collaborate across functions to drive successful implementation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders towards ensuring best outcomes for the organisation.
  • Make recommendations to management to better align operations with strategy towards achieving the organisation’s goals

Finance Administration

  • Ensure all taxation and legislative requirements are complied as at when due.
  • Conduct timely balance sheet reconciliation
  • Analyse business performance/results, provide feedback to Executive Management for decision making purposes.
  • Maintain integrity of the company’s accounting system (software), ensuring it always remains effective and operational.
  • Manage expenditure in-line with budget approvals.
  • Define standards, policies, and procedures to drive the attainment of the organisation’s goals.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Management, source and identify suitable funding options and financial services providers for the organisation; this includes project funding sourcing and bank charges negotiations.
  • Identify and deploy cost saving initiatives.

Payroll Administration

  • Oversee all payroll functions to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Negotiate and manage the employee insurance and benefits plans.
  • Process and submit statutory and benefits remittances on time

Risk Management

  • Oversee all payroll functions to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner.

Team Leadership and Management

  • Provide direction, leadership, and managerial support for the Finance amp; Accounts team. Manage performance; facilitate development; coach and mentor.
