Quality, Food Safety, and Hygiene Manager Position Overview

Plantation Industries Limited is a leading Cocoa Processing Company in Nigeria. The company has market wide reputation as a responsible and reliable supplier of food ingredients to local and international food giants. We require for immediate employment an experienced Quality, Food Safety and Hygiene manager in the food processing industry who will be responsible for policy, strategy and testing methodology to meet regulatory authority compliance in regard to the company products. They also assist in setting quality standards and ensure that production is maintained at such standards.


This position is responsible for leading QUALITY DEPARTMENT team members to ensure that all products is wholesome and meets all products specification while ensuring the safest working environment possible. This position works closely with all levels of management and regulating agencies such as NAFDAC and NESREA in ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. The person in this position is responsible for managing and owning various functions of the business and creating an engaged team oriented workforce in order to improve business results.


Our ideal Quality, Food Safety and Hygiene manager will identify bottlenecks in production processes and resolve issues; ensure production resources (including materials, equipment and talents) are available as needed to maintain set goals, support continuous improvement goals on safety, quality, cost and customer service.


Responsibilities
  • Understand customer needs and requirements to develop effective quality control processes, standard operating procedures (SOPs) aligned with good laboratory practices, (GLPs) Good House Keepings (GHKs) good manufacturing practices (GMPs) and Pathogen/Environmental Monitoring
  • Verification and/or maintenance of HACCP, SSOP, and prerequisite programs, plant environment and finished products.
  • Ensure not only the use of food grade oil in all sections of the factory but adequate monitoring procedure are put in place and implemented to avoid leakages or contact with products for production of MOSH and MOAH free product.
  • Ensure raw materials - cocoa bean and products are free of pesticide by adopting integrated pest prevention and control management plan.
  • Collaborate with our Sustainability and Traceability Team to prevent the use of chlorpyrifos pesticide in our cocoa farms
    • In-depth knowledge of Cocoa Traceability and Sustainability
  • Collaborate with operations on the initiation of corrective action and preventive measures when necessary. Ensure adherence to food safety and quality requirements. Participation and Preparation for plant tours and audits.
  • Set requirements for raw material or intermediate products for suppliers and monitor their compliance
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety guidelines as well as legal obligations
  • Supervise inspectors, technicians and other staff and provide guidance and feedback
  • Oversee all product development procedures to identify deviations from quality standards
  • Inspect final output and compare properties to requirements
  • Define working instructions on equipment operation and maintenance and Microbiology analyses.
  • Develop Specifications for Outsourced Service Providers.
  • Carry out Microbial analyses on Packaging materials, raw water, Potable water and Finished Goods.
  • Verification of Cleaning-In-Place (CIP) through microbial analysis of Final Rinse water samples throughout the loops.
  • Verification of COP and manual cleanings through surface swab sampling and Microbial analyses.
  • Ensured all daily and weekly samples are taken by the LabTechnicians
  • Ensure quality control of raw materials and finished products
  • Prepare reports on each test preformed for measuring quality, quantity and composition
  • Compute formulas, percentages or production specific factors
  • Setting quality standards and ensure that production is sustained at such standards
  • Prepare graphs, charts and reports from test results periodically.
  • Maintain the long-term continuity of production and service quality
  • Perform quality control analysis including tests and inspections of products and processes and product packaging
  • Digitalisation of records of all tests, reports and processes.
  • Maintain the corporate quality manual and quality records
  • Arrange, coordinate and participate in external quality audits
  • Establish SOPs and conditions for handling, storage and preservation of samples, raw materials and finished goods.
  • Oversee corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) implementation and documentations with other departments.
