Job Description

Job Summary

Provide leadership to the analysts in the validation of financial statements and ensure improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of internal operations of the organisation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the development and monitor execution of the Financial amp; Operational Audit Plan
  • Ensure team members possess required skills to conduct financial audits
  • Ensure that audit procedures are strictly adhered to, including identifying and defining issues, developing criteria, reviewing and analyzing evidence, and documentation of processes and procedures
  • Evaluate financial records and establish risk-based audit programs
  • Review and validate the financial amp; operational audit report prepared by the team
  • Make recommendations to enhance the internal control system
  • Perform and Manage ad hoc or special audit assignments, investigations as instructed by the Group Chief, Internal Audit
  • Ensure full utilization of Audit tools throughout the audit assignments
  • Oversee and manage the work of the financial and operational audit analysts
  • Communicate the results, findings and recommendations of audit projects via written reports and face-to-face presentations on a timely basis to the SBU Head of Audit
  • Maintain all organisational and professional ethical standards and ensure internal audit activities are carried out in compliance with International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (Standards) and IIA Code of Ethics.
  • Perform peer quality reviews as requested by the Deputy Group Head
  • Ensure risk assessment is updated to reflect identified controls that will impact the residual risk score.
  • Perform and Manage ad hoc or special audit assignments and investigations
  • Identify training needs of direct reports and recommend training courses/programs
  • Work with process owners to review management’s response to external audit management letter recommendations; monitor progress on plans to address them and perform follow-up
  • Assist in the internal audit engagement planning process.

Requirements

Education and Work Experience

  • A first degree in Accounting or any related discipline
  • A Master’s Degree in Accounting or MBA or Master Audit Comptabilité Contrôle, would be an added advantage
  • Professional qualifications such as, Diplôme d'Expertise Comptable (DEC), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) are required.
  • Minimum of thirteen (10) years relevant work experience including Minimum of 5 years’ experience with a top-tier Audit firm and at least five (3) years in a senior management position.
  • Experience across multiple industries/markets e.g. Manufacturing, Energy, Utilities etcetera. International work experience is an added advantage
  • Professional Working Proficiency in both French and English is required.

Skills and Behaviours

  • Sound understanding of the cement manufacturing industry in terms of trends, challenges, opportunities, regulations, legislation etc.
  • In-depth understanding of internal auditing standards, responsibilities, code of ethics, and certification.
  • Knowledge of the role of Internal Audit in corporate governance and its key relationships with the Board, Board Committees (e.g. Audit Committee) and Executive Management;
  • Knowledge of SYSCOHADA, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting and financial reporting requirements of regulatory agencies, as appropriate, and compliance and reporting requirements of applicable tax authorities (federal, state and local), as appropriate
  • Ability to provide sound business judgment, strategic thinking, and broad financial and business perspective across the organisation.
  • Must possess skills required for the conduct of business process reviews, compliance reviews, evaluate operations, and provide valuable recommendations
  • Must have an awareness of new technologies and audit automation tools to improve the effectiveness of the audit function.
  • Ability to apply control models such as the COSO Internal Control framework
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Very strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Practical knowledge of office productivity tools (MS Office) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions.
  • Good business writing skills.
  • Good supervisory, coaching and mentoring skills.
